The beginning of the 2003 Championship Series is less than two weeks away! It's what we've all been working
for! The tournament will be held in Stuart, Florida. The new sports complex** is called Halapatiokee Park.
To get there, take I-95 to 76 (Kanner Highway) and head east to Lost River Road (first intersection), go to
park.
**The park is a "family" park and has a No Alcohol and a No Smoking policy. Each team will be charged a
deposit that will be refunded only if it is returned to the tournament directors from the park officials. So
please follow the rules and pick up after yourselves. The park does not have a "No Dogs" policy. (There's a
surprise!) However, DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE FIELDS OR ON THE SIDELINES. There are some shady areas
around the perimeter where dogs could be staked. There will be people there to monitor our behavior. There
will also be Youth Football happening on Saturday, so all the more reason to behave.
There is a concession stand at the park which sells hamburgers and hot-dogs for $1.50 and beverages
including water and sports drinks for $1. They also sell ice cream and snacks. There are a couple of
convenience store a minute away and some restaurants including McDonalds and Cracker Barrel.

There is also camping available at Phipps Park which is about 5-10 minutes or 3-4 miles from the park. The
phone number there is: 772-287-6565, you will speak with either Kurt or Bob, and you should mention
"Ultimate Frisbee". This park offers primitive camping for $10 per campsite per night. There are no
amenities like water or electricity, but there are showers with hot water. If you are using a generator, you
may only run it from 7am-10 pm. Here's the catch...the gate is locked at 7:30 pm, so you must be checked in
by that time. There is a combination lock that you will receive the code to, however you need to be checked
in to get it, after that you may come and go as you please. They do no accept credit card reservations. I
spoke with the guy at length, and we came up with at least one workable scenario. If at least one person
from your group gets there before 7:30, they could pay for all the sites, receive the code, and let you in.
He said this person would need to have a list of who is at what site for him. He also said if someone is
going to be a little late, they would try to have an employee stay late to get you checked in, but not until
1:00 in the morning. Bottom line, if you plan to stay there call ahead. They have 60 sites total, so
availability should not be an issue (this time of year).
